Safe pregnancy tips and motherhood

Your Pregnancy Journey

  • Keep your clinic visits regular: Go to your nearest health clinic at least 4 times (ideally 8 times) during your pregnancy to see a midwife or a doctor.
  • Protect your baby from serious infections: During your check-ups, ask for a blood test for HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B. If any of these are found, taking early, safe medicines from your clinic can protect your baby from being born with the infection.
  • Eat healthy foods: Fill your plate with fresh local foods like green vegetables, root crops, fresh fish, and ripe fruits to keep you and your baby strong.
  • Get your tetanus defense: Tetanus (lockjaw) is a dangerous sickness. To protect yourself and your future babies, make sure you get a total of 5 doses of the tetanus vaccine over time. If you are pregnant and haven't finished your 5 doses, ask for your booster shot today!
  • Plan a safe birth: Always arrange to give birth at a clinic or hospital with a skilled doctor, midwife, or nurse present to assist you.
  • Give your body time to heal: Spacing your children 2 to 3 years apart keeps both mothers and babies healthy and gives you more energy for your family.
  • Get care after birth: Go to the clinic with your baby for postnatal check-ups for at least 6 weeks after giving birth.
